About Our Method

The revolutionary Simply Music Piano program offers a breakthrough in music education, and has students playing great-sounding contemporary, classical, gospel, blues and accompaniment pieces – immediately – from their very first lessons.

Simply Music focuses on the sheer pleasure of playing. The ‘hands-on’ approach, and immediate results, actively dispels the notion that learning to play means enduring years of lessons, boring practice sessions and relentless hours of drills.

My boys are 8 and 10. They’ve had just 12 lessons with Simply Music and already know 12 songs. Not just ‘Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star’ and ‘Mary Had A Little Lamb’, but real music. The boys are already playing the blues. They think they’re hot stuff.

How Simply Music is different

Key Distinguishing Features

Quantity

Students in the program play an average of 30-50 songs within the first year, from memory, with both hands. What’s more is that the program builds this repertoire cumulatively, so that students acquire an entire body of music in various styles, that they can play any time. Contrast this approach with traditional lessons where most students can only play a handful of pieces well, and only with the aid of music notation.

Quality

Students learn a mix of high-quality, original compositions, as well as level-appropriate Classical, Blues, and Pop songs from the very beginning. Even the simplified arrangements sound much better, played with both hands, than many beginner method books. You won’t be spending time with “Mary Had a Little Lamb” or “Little Brown Jug” (unless you want to).

Speed

The method builds upon existing skills and natural musicality that every student already has mastered (such as speaking or walking), which allows for a much quicker learning curve. These are not “shortcuts” or “hacks.” We show students how to make the best use of their practice time so that they can learn songs more quickly.

Ease

Any artistic pursuit that is worth learning is going to be challenging. So we would never say that it’s “easy.” But that does not mean that the journey has to be arduous and overly-difficult. Simply Music teaches students how to enjoy the journey. By breaking complex concepts into smaller, more manageable chunks, students will learn how to accomplish their musical goals with more ease. Having a coach by their side will provide encouragement and motivation when new challenges arise.

Delayed Reading

Traditional methods insist that beginners learn to read music as the means of learning to play. This removes the natural connection between student and instrument and commonly, it removes all the fun, too.

In fact, expecting students to read music before they’ve learned to play is like expecting children to read and spell before they’ve learned to talk. In stark contrast, Simply Music temporarily delays reading and introduces a revolutionary, ‘playing-based’ approach – a body of unique concepts that unfold directly onto the keyboard, producing unprecedented results. With Simply Music, you experience the pleasure and satisfaction that comes from immediately playing a huge repertoire of great sounding music.

I have seen a lot of music programs over the years. Some were fun. Some were clever. Some were thorough. Here’s one that has it all. In terms of presentation, effectiveness, philosophy—you name it—there’s nothing out there that compares at all.

Accessibility

This is a wonderful music program and the results are astounding! Even if you don’t consider yourself musically inclined, this program is for you. I also think it could be a major breakthrough for children with a variety of cognitive delays and learning difficulties. I love Simply Music’s approach.

The Simply Music Method is based on the premise
that everyone, without exception, is naturally musical - even people who previously thought that they were not!

Because of this premise, Simply Music has been very successful in reaching those who might never have had access to learning the piano before. This program started with the founder teaching a student who was blind. Now, teachers all over the world are using the program to reach special needs students of all kinds.
